Upgrade from Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics version 4.2.1 to version 4.2.2
Perform the following steps to upgrade from version 4.2.1 of the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics to version 4.2.2.
Upgrade your DCS
- Stop the scheduler from the Collection Configuration page of Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics.
- Stop your Splunk instance.
- Install the package Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics.
- Add the contents of the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.
Upgrade your DCN
- Stop your Splunk instance.
- Get the package(s) listed based on your requirements:
- Add the contents of the packages to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.
Upgrade your Indexer
Steps for on-premise deployment
From backend:
- Stop your Splunk instance on the indexer.
- Get the "Splunk Supporting Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes" package.
- Add the contents of the "Splunk Supporting Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes" to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.
From Splunk UI:
- Open your Splunk instance of the Indexer.
- Navigate to Find more apps.
- Search for the Splunk Supporting Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes package and install it.
Steps for a Cloud Deployment
- Open your Splunk instance on the search head.
- Navigate to Find more apps.
- Search for the Splunk Supporting Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes package and install it.
Upgrade your Search Head
Steps for on-premise deployment
From backend:
- Stop the Splunk instance on the search head.
- Get the Splunk Add-on for VMware ESXi logs and the Splunk Add-on for vCenter logs packages.
- Add the contents of the packages to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.
From Splunk UI:
- Open the Splunk instance on the Search Head.
- Navigate to Find more apps.
- Search for the Splunk Add-on for VMware ESXi logs and the Splunk Add-on for vCenter logs and install them.
Steps for cloud deployment
- Open the Splunk instance on the Search Head.
- Navigate to Find more apps.
- Search for the Splunk Add-on for VMware ESXi logs and Splunk Add-on for vCenter logs packages and install them.
Upgrade dedicated ESXi log forwarder
- Stop the Splunk instance on the search head.
- Install the Splunk Add-on for VMware ESXi logs package.
- Extract the contents of the packages to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.
Upgrade dedicated vCenter log forwarder
- Stop the Splunk instance on the search head.
- Install the "Splunk Add-on for vCenter logs" package.
- Extract the contents of the packages to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.
Start Splunk
- Start Splunk instance on the DCN, scheduler, and indexer instances after upgrading them.
- On the Collection Configuration page of Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics, start the scheduler on the scheduler machine.
