Release notes for the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes

Version 4.2.1 of the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes was released on June 28, 2021. This is the first release of Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes.

The package included in Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes (SA-VMWIndex-inframon) was previously part of Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics in v4.2.0 or below. The package is being released as an individual Splunkbase App to create support for self-service installation in cloud environments for the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics and dependent add-ons.

What's new

These features are available in the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes v4.2.1. For compatibility information, go to the Data collection planning and requirements.

New feature or enhancement Description
Index definition The package contains the definition of the indexes that are required for the ingestion of the data collected by Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics, Splunk Add-on for VMware ESXi logs, and Splunk Add-on for vCenter logs. This supporting add-on is required for these add-ons.
Support for self-service installation in cloud environments Customers of the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics on cloud environment can install this package by following the cloud installation steps.


As the add-on package was previously part of the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics (for v4.2.0 or below), existing customers of Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics have to follow the upgrade steps for the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics to switch to the version of the add-on that supports self-service installation.
