Splunk® Data Stream Processor

Install and administer the Data Stream Processor

Acrobat logo Download manual as PDF

On April 3, 2023, Splunk Data Stream Processor reached its end of sale, and will reach its end of life on February 28, 2025. If you are an existing DSP customer, please reach out to your account team for more information.

All DSP releases prior to DSP 1.4.0 use Gravity, a Kubernetes orchestrator, which has been announced end-of-life. We have replaced Gravity with an alternative component in DSP 1.4.0. Therefore, we will no longer provide support for versions of DSP prior to DSP 1.4.0 after July 1, 2023. We advise all of our customers to upgrade to DSP 1.4.0 in order to continue to receive full product support from Splunk.

Install the Splunk App for DSP

The Splunk App for DSP is packaged in the Splunk Data Stream Processor installation package provided by your Splunk representative.

Installing the Splunk App for DSP involves installing the splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz and TA-splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz files provided in the DSP installation package onto specific locations in your Splunk deployment:

  • The splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz file must be installed on the same instance as the Splunk Monitoring Console. If you are unsure of where the Splunk Monitoring Console is, see Which instance should host the console?
  • The TA-splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz file must be installed onto your Splunk indexers.

Prerequisites

If you have the DSP Health App installed in your Splunk deployment, you must uninstall that app before you install the Splunk App for DSP. See Manage app and add-on objects for more information about uninstalling apps.

Steps

  1. In the root of the DSP installation package, locate the splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz and TA-splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz files.
  2. Verify the SHA-256 checksum of the splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz file to confirm that there are no malicious binaries or other contents before you add this app to your environment.
    1. Run the following command in the directory that the splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz file is located in.
      sha256sum splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz
    2. Verify that the returned value matches this value: 6e6022cac5ced42eee86b0a991f6cdd196f7bd1bce23a4a0e331443619b99241 splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz
  3. Verify the SHA-256 checksum of the TA-splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz file to confirm that there are no malicious binaries or other contents before you add this app to your environment.
    1. Run the following command in the directory that the TA-splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz is located in.
      sha256sum TA-splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz
    2. Verify that the returned value matches this value: f9b50cea78ec8fa236d9bff8b7d57c305b71fef432cea0ef0f89efb95c62af91 TA-splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz
  4. Install the splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz file on the same instance as the Splunk Monitoring Console, and install the TA-splunk_app_dsp-1.0.16.tar.gz file onto your Splunk indexers. To do this, follow the steps given on the topic matching your Splunk Enterprise or Splunk Cloud deployment. You can skip the Splunkbase steps because you already have the app package.
