How Splunk Works

Virtual machines

This documentation does not apply to the most recent version of Splunk. Click here for the latest version.

Virtual machines

Please note: virtual environments degrade performance because the native environment is emulating the environment that you are going to run Splunk in. When running Splunk on a virtual machine, be sure to configure the virtual environment with settings (for hardware specifications) which are greater than what you'd expect if you were to install Splunk on an actual server.
