Splunk Manager
New administrative web interface
This feature includes a new administrative user interface called Splunk Manager. Administrators now have have expanded user interface-based control over system settings, server controls, license management, distributed search setup, system logging preferences, email alert settings, indexes, data inputs, fowarding and receiving, authentication method, and users/roles configuration.
In addition, both users and administrators have the ability to manage Splunk objects such as searches, reports, event types, field extractions and views, allowing them easily view, edit, save, and set permissions. Control over these configurations is based on user/role permissions and application context.
Extensible administration
Splunk Manager is built on top of a REST API, which handles all communication with Splunk's back-end configurations, and presents information for display in the Splunk Manager user interface. Users can extend or replace Splunk's management interface including:
- Add new functionality to Splunk's API via Python and Splunk's configuration file system
- Build setup XML files for their apps that interface with Splunk's REST API and Splunk's configuration file system.
- Replace one or all forms within Splunk Manager with their own forms, and bundle them with an app
Simplified object management
Splunk objects such as searches, reports, event types, field extractions and views can now be easily viewed, edited, and saved through a user interface.
Administrators can delegate control over objects through the ability to set read/write permission on a granular basis, allowing users only see and manage Splunk resources that they have access to.

New administrative CLI interface
Splunk introduces a new administrative command line interface. The interface is a standardized command line framework that adds remote management controls and remote access, a standardized REST API interface where applicable, and the CLI adds many new commands to support new product features and controls.
Benefits
Users can see and manage their own Splunk resources simply and easily with the new Splunk Manager. Splunk resources like searches, reports, event types, field extractions and views are easily viewed, edited, and saved. The user experience is easy because of the groupings of server configuration, Splunk objects by type, and applications. The user only see views of Splunk resources that the user has access to - resulting in an improved user experience.
