The cookbook provides learn-by-doing recipes for building custom apps, using progressive, real-world examples. We take a simple CPU resource utilization application and iterate on that example, building on what you already know toward gaining a more comprehensive understanding of the Module System.

Download the Cookbook tutorial app to run the examples as a Splunk app.

Cookbook examples are can be found in the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps/dev_tutorial directory. You can follow along or try implementing the examples yourself.

Our data source is the readily available metrics.log file. We demonstrate various Module System customizations by rendering CPU utilization statistics, using the following search results:

index=_internal source=*metrics.log group=pipeline | stats sum(cpu_seconds) as totalCPU by name
