Download the Solution components
These instructions tell you how to download Splunk for WebSphere Application Server (WAS).
Knowing how you want to splunk your WebSphere environment and deploy and use Splunk for WAS in your environment is essential to getting this App working for you. For more information on deployment considerations, see the Splunk product documentation.
You must be logged into Splunkbase to download the components of the solution. If you are unable to download the Solution, contact the Splunk Support team using the: Splunk Support Portal and we will get back to you.
We recommend that you
- know Splunk and have used it in an enterprise environment before installing and using the Solution. Read the Splunk product documentation for more information on how to get started.
- are familiar with core WAS concepts and that you understand your Application Server infrastructure.
- download all of the solution components to a shared folder on your network and then install each component.
Note: We assume that you have Splunk running in your environment and that the indexer/search head is configured to receive data on a specified port. For more information, read the Splunk product documentation at http://docs.splunk.com.

After you have installed the solution components and configured the Solution to work in your environment, open the App (Splunk App for WAS) and run the following saved searches:
- In Views > Saved searches click
setup_dropdown - In Views > Saved searches click
setup_log
The saved searches populate the views with data from your splunked environment. Populating the views can take time and depends upon the quantity of data you have coming into Splunk. To read more about validating your setup, see Is the Solution working?.
