navigation menu

noun

A custom menu built for a specific app. Navigation menus display toward the top of the UI and offer nested drop-down menus of views and saved searches. If you're building your own app, you can build a custom navigation menu. If you just want to add a view or saved search to an existing app, you can customize an existing navigation menu. Navigation menus are built out of XML. Every app should have a navigation menu saved as default.xml in $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps/<app_name>/default/data/ui/nav/. In the navigation XML, you can set up rules for matching saved searches or views by name.
