About installing and configuring Hunk

To set up Hunk and virtual indexes, follow the steps in this chapter to install Splunk and then license and configure Hunk. Because Hunk uses a lot of Splunk functionality, you should also read some of the Splunk Enterprise documentation, especially the Search Manual and Search Tutorial.

To try out Hunk on your own system

Read the Hunk Tutorial. The tutorial will walk you through setting up an instance of Hunk in a Hadoop Virtual Machine using provided sample data. It's a great way to play with Hunk functionality without the commitment of configuring it to work with your HDFS directories.
