Step 3: Set up an HDFS directory for Hunk access

Next, we will create a new HDFS directory that gives the root user access. This is needed for this specific example because we will install Splunk as root, and Splunk must have permissions for an HDFS directory. (If you are not following this example exactly and plan to set up Splunk as one of the users that already has HDFS permissions, you may skip this step.)

Here is an example of how we did it:

su - hdfs -c "hadoop fs -mkdir /user/root"
su - hdfs -c "hadoop fs -chown root:root /user/root"
hadoop fs -mkdir /user/root/splunkmr

Run the following command to see the new directory and permissions:

hadoop fs -ls -R /user/<hunk user>
