Tutorial: Build a beta glass table to monitor request and volume flow

In this tutorial, you'll build the glass table below, which requires you to add and place icons, use the layering option in the action panel, and upload a background image.

Do not confuse the beta glass table editor with the classic glass tables you've already built. Beta glass tables say "beta" in the version column. If you're editing an original glass table, see Create a glass table in ITSI.

When you are finished, your glass table will look similar to the following image:

Create a dashboard definition

  1. From the glass table editor click Source.
  2. In the Exchange Environment Request Volume and Flow section below, click Expand and copy the source code for the dashboard definition.
  3. Remove the existing source text for the glass table and paste the code.

    This source code includes default ds.test data sources that allow you to embed sample data directly in the dashboard definition to allow for easier prototyping and experimentation.

  4. Click Back to return to the editing interface.

Add icons and a background image

  1. Download and unzip the following image files to a convenient location on your computer.
  2. In the Configuration panel of the glass table editor, click Styling.
  3. In the Background Image section, add the background.jpg image. You can drop the image or click browse... to add it to your canvas.
  4. Add your icons.
    In the editing toolbar, click the icon button A button with four shapes.. Add the following icons that you downloaded by dropping them directly into the icon tray or by clicking browse...
    • {}.svg
    • cellphone.svg
    • database.svg
    • laptop.svg
    • server.svg
    • screen.svg

    Some of the uploaded icons are white, so you must either find them by name or hover over them to see the images.

  5. Click an icon to add it to your glass table. Resize and position the icons to match the image above. Icons are always added to the top layer of the canvas. Use the action panel on the widget to "bring to front" and place the icon over the widget:

  6. Click saveSave icon.when you're finished.
