Overview of the beta glass table editor in ITSI

When you install or upgrade to Splunk IT Service Intelligence 4.2.x or later, you have the opportunity to explore the beta version of the new glass table editor. Future versions of the glass table editor might expand on existing features and be built on this new framework. The purpose of the beta editor is to gather feedback on the new editing experience in order to improve the future experience of building, editing, and customizing glass tables.

You can perform the following tasks with the beta glass table editor:

  1. Upgrade an existing glass table to the beta framework
  2. Create a new beta glass table
  3. Provide feedback on the beta editor
  4. Customize your glass table canvas
  5. Add and edit a custom icon
  6. Add and edit text
  7. Create and customize shapes
  8. Use keyboard shortcuts to edit your glass table
  9. Add a KPI visualization
  10. Add an ad hoc search visualization
  11. Configure drilldowns
  12. Configure thresholding

Upgrade an existing glass table to the beta framework

When you upgrade a classic glass table to the beta version, ITSI creates a clone of the original glass table. You will not lose the original version when you upgrade it.

  1. Click Glass Tables from the ITSI main menu.
  2. Find the glass table you want to upgrade and click Upgrade in the Actions column.
  3. Provide a title and optional description. Don't include any special characters in the title.
  4. Click Upgrade. ITSI clones the original glass table into the beta framework. The Version column for the new glass table says "beta".
  5. Click Edit on the beta glass table to start editing in the new framework.

Create a new beta glass table

If you don't want to clone one of your existing glass tables, you can create a beta glass table from scratch.

  1. Click Glass Tables from the ITSI main menu.
  2. Click Create Glass Table
  3. Provide a title and optional description. Don't include any special characters in the title.
  4. Click Beta to create the glass table in the new framework.
  5. Click Create. ITSI creates the new glass table with "beta" in the Version column.
  6. Click Edit on the beta glass table to start editing in the new framework.

You can also install the Content Pack for Example Glass Tables to get preconfigured beta glass tables directly into your ITSI environment. For more information, see About the Content Pack for Example Glass Tables.
