Tutorial: Build a beta glass table to monitor request and volume flow
Do not confuse the beta glass table editor with the classic glass tables you've already built. Beta glass tables say "beta" in the version column. If you're editing an original glass table, see Create a glass table in ITSI.
The following tutorial illustrates some of the capabilities of the beta glass table editor in IT Service Intelligence (ITSI). You'll add and place icons, use the layering option, and upload a background image. When you're finished, your glass table will look similar to the following image:
Step 1: Create a dashboard definition
- From the glass table editor click source
. - In the Exchange Environment Request Volume and Flow section below, click Expand and copy the source code for the dashboard definition.
- Remove the existing source text for the glass table and paste the code.
This source code includes default
ds.testdata sources that allow you to embed sample data directly in the dashboard definition to allow for easier prototyping and experimentation. - Click Back to return to the editing interface.

Step 2: Add icons and a background image
- Download and unzip the following image files to a convenient location on your computer.
- In the Background Image section of the Configuration panel, add the
background.jpgimage. - In the editing toolbar, click the icon button
. - Click browse... and add the following icons that you downloaded:

cellphone.svg -
database.svg -
laptop.svg -
server.svg -
screen.svg
Some of the uploaded icons are white, so you must either find them by name or hover over them to see the images.

- Select an icon to add it to your glass table. Resize and position the icons to match the image above. Icons are always added to the top layer of the canvas. Use the action panel on the widget to reconfigure its layering.
- Click save
when you're finished.
