What's in this manual
This manual contains information for building dashboards, forms, and advanced views using advanced XML. It also provides an introduction to building apps and add-ons for Splunk Web, extending Splunk Enterprise, and other advanced topics.
This manual is for advanced users. If you are new to developing dashboards and apps, you should start with simple XML, as described in the Splunk Dashboards and Visualizations Manual.
A bit about the history of this manual
Prior to Splunk Enterprise 4.3, this manual was titled Splunk Developer Manual. However, with the introduction of the Splunk Developer Portal, which covers material related to development using the Splunk SDKs and the Splunk App Framework, the Splunk Developer Manual was retitled Developing Dashboards, Views, and Apps for Splunk Web.
With Splunk Enterprise 5.0, the sections on simple XML moved to the Dashboards and Visualizations manual.
This manual does not cover leveraging Splunk SDKs in your applications. Developers who want to use the Splunk SDKs or build and customize apps using the Splunk App Framework should visit the Splunk Developer Portal.
