Customize the login page

Add custom text to the login page

You can customize the Splunk Web login page with plain or HTML formatted text. Use the login_content option to add custom text to the settings stanza in web.conf. Follow the syntax shown here.

login_content = <content_string>

Restart the splunkweb process after editing web.conf to make the text visible.

Note: Text and formatting can be no longer than one line in web.conf, as shown in the example below.

login_content = This is a <b>production server</b>.<br>For expensive searches try: <a href="http://server2:8080">server2</a>

For more information, see the web.conf spec file in the Admin Manual.

Is there a way to add custom text in the black-colored navbar-splunkbar at the top of the main page after login ? This is to display something similar to the login_content, example the environment name like TEST, PROD etc. (In case friendly dns names and virtual IPs from the URL are not available to figure out what instance we are logged in to.)

The background graphic for the Splunk Lite login screen is located here:
C:\program files\Splunk\share\splunk\search_mrsparkle\exposed\img\skins\default\lite_login_bg.png but is marked as read-only by default.

Hi Nsmalley splunk,
Thanks for your comment. We do not recommend or document custom login screen images as they are not currently supported.

In order to add a company image below UserName / Password/ Login - upload the .png to $SPLUNK_HOME/share/splunk/search_mrsparkle/exposed/img/skins/default/
and add the following to your $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/system/local/web.conf
login_content = <img src="/static/img/skins/default/<name_of_company_logo>.png" height="<number>" width="number">
***NOTE THIS WILL BE REMOVED DURING AN UPGRADE OF SPLUNK - remember to copy .png off and replace after upgrade. ***
