Configure SAML SSO in Splunk Web

Use this task to set up your Splunk Enterprise configuration to authenticate using your identity provider. We recommend you obtain your IdP metadata from your provider before you begin.

Splunk Cloud customers: Before you attempt to configure SSO, contact Splunk Support and open a ticket requesting them to prepare your cloud deployment for SSO. When they have configured your deployment, they will notify you and provide the certificate required.

Note: In a search head clustering environment, you need to configure SAML on each search head.

1. In the Settings menu, select Access Controls > Authentication method.

2. Select SAML as your authentication type.

3. Click Configure Splunk to use SAML.

4. In the "SAML Groups" page, click SAML Configuration.

5. In the General Settings section of the page, provide the following information:

  • Browse and select your metadata file, or copy and past your metadata directly into the text window.
  • Provide a Single Sign on URL. This is the protected endpoint on your IdP to which Splunk will send authentication requests. Your users will use this URL for SSO login. In order to get the regular Splunk login page after SAML is enabled, the full login URL (/account/login) should be appended with loginType=Splunk.
  • Provide a Single Log Out URL: This is the IdP protocol endpoint. If you do not provide this URL, the user will not be logged out.
  • Provide the Certificate file for your IdP. In a search head cluster environment, you must use the same certificate on each search head.
  • Provide the Entity ID. This is the entity ID as configured in the SP connection entry in your IdP.
  • Check whether you want a Signed authentication request and Signed SAML response (recommended).

6. In the Attribute Query section provide the following information. You must provide this information in order to create schedule searches later:

  • Provide an Attribute Query URL. This is the endpoint on the IdP to which queries over SOAP should be sent.
  • Check whether you want the attribute query and responses to be signed (recommended) and if you check yes, provide the necessary credentials.

In the Advanced settings section, optionally provide the following information:

  • Host Name or IP of the load balancer.
  • Redirect port for the load balance
  • Whether (and where) to redirect user after logout.
