Dashboard tools and frameworks

Depending on the customizations that you want, you can select one of the following options for building and editing dashboards.

Splunk Web dashboard editor

Build and update dashboards without editing or writing source code. Some customization options might be limited.

Simple XML

By default, dashboards use Simple XML source code.

For more information, see these resources.

Simple XML extensions

Extend Simple XML with custom CSS stylesheets and JavaScript to implement more flexible dashboard styling and behaviors. Simple XML extensions access the SplunkJS Stack.

For more information, see the following resources.

Dashboards using HTML and JavaScript

To work with the SplunkJS Stack, convert a Simple XML dashboard to HTML. You can use HTML and JavaScript to implement dashboard customizations including advanced inputs and access to the REST API.
