Get started with Splunk AR Workflow Automation

With Splunk AR version 6.0.0 or higher and the Splunk App for Edge Hub and AR version 4.4.0 or higher, you can create playbooks to assist with workflows in the Splunk AR app. Workflow Automation playbooks guide users through real-world tasks. To use Workflow Automation, create playbooks in the Splunk app for AR and then add them to your AR workspaces in the Splunk AR mobile app.

To use workflow automation, create playbooks in the Splunk App for Edge Hub and AR and assign them to a deployment. The playbooks are then available to select from the Splunk AR mobile app as built-in playbooks.

Prerequisites

Before using Workflow Automation in Splunk AR, make sure the following tasks are complete:

1. You've set up your Splunk AR deployment and have AR workspaces. See Set up Splunk AR in the Get started with Splunk AR topic.
2. You must have the permissions to use Workflow Automation. See Configure Splunk AR roles and permissions to learn more.

Create a playbook

Here's how to create a playbook using the Splunk App for Edge Hub and AR:

1. In the Splunk App for Edge Hub and AR, navigate to Playbooks.
2. Enter title for the playbook. This is the name of the playbook for the deployment you assign it to.
3. Enter description for the playbook.
4. (Optional) Select a deployment. Once you're done creating the playbook, it's available to add as a "built-in playbook" to the assets in the deployment you select. Or you can add the playbook to a deployment later on.
5. Select Playbook Prompts > Add Prompt.
6. Enter a prompt question or instruction.
7. Select a prompt type
8. (Optional) Select Add Prompt to add following prompts.
   1. Enter a prompt description or instruction
   2. Select a prompt type. If you select Multiple Choice, enter the selection options.
   3. (Optional) Add conditional prompts by selecting from the On Yes and On no drop down lists. This list populates as you add more prompts.
   4. In the previous prompt Next Prompt field, select the description or instruction you entered for this prompt.
9. To add more prompts, repeat the Add Prompt steps.
   You can select the Card View dropdown to switch to Graph View for a more visual representation of your prompts.
   
10. When you're done adding prompts, select Save.
11. The playbook saves in the Playbooks page of the Splunk App for Edge Hub and AR.
