About the Splunk App for NetApp Data ONTAP

Use the Splunk App for NetApp Data ONTAP with the Splunk Add-on for NetApp Data ONTAP to get real-time and historical visibility into the performance and configuration of your NetApp storage infrastructure. Use this app with the Splunk Add-on for NetApp Data ONTAP to collect NetApp API data from one or more NetApp FAS controllers.

The app uses the capabilities of a scheduler and the domain specific data collection nodes (DCNs) to process the data from your storage layer and map it to the app. The Splunk Add-on for NetApp Data ONTAP uses Splunkd to index and process your data and the SplunkWeb application server to enable you to search and navigate your data using Splunk for NetAPP ONTAP dashboards.

The scheduler oversees all of the data collection tasks for the app. The scheduler UI configuration uses SplunkWeb and is the central view for job management on all data collection nodes. The Splunk data collection node sends data to your Splunk indexers once the scheduler is turned on and configured to start data collection.

Data collection nodes are responsible for making API calls to NetApp to collect the data. The data collection node is a Splunk light forwarder or heavy forwarder with the Splunk_TA_ontap, SA-Hydra, and SA-VMNetAppUtils components installed. The data collection nodes run the worker processes that retrieve the data. These worker processes are implemented as Splunk modular inputs.

Component name Download package Description
Splunk_app_netapp Splunk App for NetApp Data ONTAP This component contains the user interface components and knowledge objects of the Splunk App for NetApp Data ONTAP.
Splunk_TA_ontap Splunk Add-on for NetApp Data ONTAP Data collection component of the data collection node. This component makes API calls directly to your NetApp filers to collect API data and forwards performance, inventory, options, and EMS data to your Splunk indexer/search head.
SA-Hydra Splunk Add-on for NetApp Data ONTAP Runs and manages the worker processes on your Splunk instance, including the data collection node.
SA-VMNetAppUtils Splunk Add-on for NetApp Data ONTAP Contains the support files for SA-Hydra and Splunk_TA_ontap.
