Requirements for the Splunk App for NetApp Data ONTAP

You can install he Splunk App for VMware, version 3.0.2 and above and the Splunk App for NetApp Data ONTAP, version 2.0.1 and above in the same Splunk instance (on the same search head). This configuration supports use of the Distributed Collection Scheduler for both apps running in the single Splunk instance.

Installing the Splunk App for VMware and the Splunk App for NetApp Data ONTAP in a single Splunk instance

Install the Splunk App for VMware, version 3.0.2 and above and the Splunk App for NetApp Data ONTAP version 2.0.1 and above on the same scheduling node (typically the search head). The Splunk App for VMware contains the latest scheduling components (SA-Utils and SA-Hydra). The Splunk App for NetApp Data ONTAP must also use the latest version of these scheduling components (available in version 3.0.2 or above of the Splunk App for VMware). See "Supporting add-on versions" in this manual.

Prequisites

  • If the Splunk App for NetApp Data ONTAP version 2.0.1 or above is installed in your environment, get the latest SA-Hydra and SA-Utils version from the Splunk App for Vmware 3.0.2 or above and overwrite the existing versions of SA-Hydra and SA-Utils on the NetApp ONTAP data collection node. The data collection node is not updated when you install the latest version of the Splunk App for VMware.
  • Install the Splunk App for NetApp Data ONTAP before you install the Splunk App for VMware to use the latest versions of SA-Hydra and SA-Utils.

Note Data collection nodes can not be shared between apps for data collection. Data collection nodes collect data from either vCenter servers or NetApp filers.

Install the apps in a single Splunk instance

  1. Install the Splunk App for NetApp Data ONTAP 2.0.1 on the search head. See "Install the Splunk App for NetApp Data ONTAP" in the Deploy and Use the Splunk App for NetApp Data ONTAP manual.
  2. Install the Splunk App for VMware, version 3.0.2 or above on the same search head. See "Install on your search head or indexer" in this manual.
  3. Update the NetApp ONTAP data collection node. Copy the latest versions of SA-Utils and SA-Hydra (available in the Splunk App for VMware, version 3.0.2 or above) to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps on the data collection node. See "Create a data collection node" in the Deploy and Use the Splunk App for NetApp Data ONTAP manual.
