Where to get Splunk for VMware

Download the Splunk App for VMware

1. Download the Splunk App for VMware, from Splunk Apps to a location in your environment.
   1. Click Download and check the license agreement checkbox. The app is automatically downloaded. 
   2. Check that the file name is splunk_for_vmware-<version>-<buildnumber>.zip. It contains all the packages that you need to install the app.
2. Check that the following files exist as part of the download:

• splunk_app_vmware-<version>-<build_number>.zip
• splunk_forwarder_for_vmware-<version>-<build_number>.zip
• Splunk_TA_vcenter-<version>-<build_number>.zip
• splunk_data_collection_node_for_vmware_<version>-<build_number>.ova

To deploy the OVA (splunk_data_collection_node_for_vmware_<version>-<buildnumber>.ova) as a virtual machine in your environment follow the steps (1 to 17) in "Use the Splunk for Vmware OVA" in the "Splunk for VMware Installation and Configuration Guide".

Refer to the Splunk for VMware "Installation and Configuration Guide" for detailed instructions on how to install the App.

The app components

The App component	Description
splunk_app_vmware--<version>-<build_number>.zip	This file contains the supporting add-ons, domain add-ons, technology add-ons, and the apps that are all part of the App.
splunk_data_collection_node_for_vmware_<version>-<build_number>.ova	This is the VM created by Splunk and distributed as an OVA (Open Virtual Appliance) file.
Splunk_TA_vcenter-<version>-<build_number>.zip	This is the Add-on used to collect vCenter log data and forward it to the indexer.
splunk_forwarder_for_vmware-<version>-<build_number>.zip	This is the component you use to build your own data collection node(s). It contains the data collection components SA-Utils, SA-Hydra, Splunk_TA_vmware, and Splunk_TA_esxilogs.
