Deploy OVA to create a Data Collection Node

Make sure you have the information you need about your environment before you deploy the Data Collection Node (DCN). See "Prepare to host a data collection node".

Use vCenter Server to deploy the Splunk OVA file to create the DCN. Get this file from the Splunk App for VMware download package.

Deploy the Splunk OVA

  1. Login to vCenter Server and deploy the Splunk OVA file. The OVA file name is splunk_data_collection_node_for_vmware_<version>-<build_number>.ova.
  2. Repeat this process to create the required number of DCNs.
  3. Start up the DCN virtual machines.

Now you can configure the DCNs and the Splunk settings for each DCN. See "Configure the data collection node and system settings."
