Release notes for the Splunk Add-on for VMware Extractions

Version 4.0.3 of Splunk Add-on for VMware Extractions was released on July 13, 2021. This is the first release of Splunk Add-on for VMware Extractions.

Note: The package included in the Splunk Add-on for VMware Extractions (TA-VMW-FieldExtractions) was previously part of Splunk Add-on for VMware in v4.0.2 or below. This package is being released as an individual Splunkbase add-on to add support for self-service installation in cloud environments.

What's new

These features are available in the Splunk Add-on for VMware Extractions v4.0.3. For compatibility information, go to the Data collection planning and requirements.

New feature or enhancement	Description
Search-time extractions	This package contains search-time extractions required for data collected by the Splunk Add-on for VMware and the extractions for VMware App and ITSI Virtualization module.
Addition of Hydra troubleshooting dashboards	Use the Hydra Scheduler Status and Hydra Framework Status dashboards to identify the issues related to jobs and your scheduler machine. These dashboards were previously included in the SA-Hydra package, which was required on the search head. As we have added these dashboards to TA-VMW-FieldExtractions, SA-Hydra is no longer required on the search head.
Support for self-service installation in cloud environments	Customers of the Splunk Add-on for VMware on cloud environment can install this package by following the Install and Configure Splunk Add-on for VMware Extractions to the cloud environment steps in Splunk Web on the search head. As the add-on package was previously part of the Splunk Add-on for VMware (for v4.0.2 or previous), existing customers of Splunk Add-on for VMware have to follow the upgrade steps for the Splunk Add-on for VMware to switch to the version of the add-on that supports the self-service installation.
