Splunk Remote Upgrader for Linux Universal Forwarders

Download your remote upgrader

The remote upgrader package contains:

  • The remote upgrader for Linux universal forwarders.
  • Delivery scripts that deliver a new version of the universal forwarder to the already installed universal forwarder that has an active remote upgrader installed using the deployment server.

Download the Remote Upgrader for Linux Universal Forwarders

  1. Download and untar the Remote Upgrader for Linux Universal Forwarders on splunkbase.com.
  2. On the deployment server, copy the package from the default folder ./default/packages/splunk-upgrader-{version}.tgz and ./default/packages/splunk-upgrader-{version}.tgz.sig to the local folder ./local/packages/

Deploy the remote upgrader

Once you have downloaded your remote upgrader, you can deploy it as follows:

  • Using the Deployment server, described in Create deployment apps
  • By distributing the remote upgrader package without using the deployment server, which is described in this section.


Distribute the Remote upgrader page without using the deployment server

If you prefer using your own distribution method, you can extract the remote upgrader package and distribute it as follows.

  1. Untar the remote upgrader.
  2. Locate the splunk-upgrader-100.tgz file, this is the remote upgrader package.
  3. Send the package to the Linux box where the universal forwarder is already running.
