Splunk® Enterprise

Splunk support policy

Check this manual often for updated information about the Splunk platform Python 3 migration. The content is subject to change.

Splunk will continue to support Splunk Enterprise 7.x releases following the Splunk Software Support Policy.

Splunk will not backport Python 3 to Splunk Enterprise 7.x or earlier. Splunk Enterprise 7.x releases will use Python 2.7, while Splunk Enterprise versions 8.0.x and 8.1.x will support Python 2.7 and Python 3.7.

After the Python 2 end of life date on January 1st, 2020, Splunk will no longer receive security updates and fixes from the Python community to Python 2 code in Splunk Enterprise. This will not impair Splunk's ability to provide support for Splunk Enterprise, including Python 2.7. However, to continue to leverage community support and maintain compatibility with the many third party projects that use Python, Splunk is migrating Splunk Enterprise, supported Premium Solutions, and Splunk-built Splunkbase apps to Python 3.7 compatibility.
