Upgrade Readiness

Manage weekly emails from the Upgrade Readiness App

The Upgrade Readiness App scans your Splunk platform deployment for jQuery vulnerabilities and for features and code that might not work with Python 3. The app then sends emails every week by default if it detects apps that do not pass its scan. Sometimes, the email might include apps for with recently resolved or dismissed issues. If so, those apps won't be present in the next weekly email.

Address these emails by working with owners of your apps to update them to rely on only higher versions of Python and jQuery. If you cannot update the apps, you can also choose to disable the weekly emails.

Address outdated apps as a Splunk admin

The Upgrade Readiness App scan results of public apps include Splunk-supported apps and third-party apps supported by partners and developers. App owners are responsible for updating their apps and releasing new versions that meet the upgrade readiness requirements of the Splunk platform releases that require Python 3 or jQuery 3.5. As a Splunk Cloud Platform or Splunk Enterprise admin, you need to work with app owners to ensure the apps in your deployment are updated.

For more information on the Splunk Enterprise Python 3 release, see Python 3 migration with the Splunk platform.

For more information about how to act on the Python scan results in your weekly emails, see Act on Python scan results with the Upgrade Readiness App.

For more information on jQuery 3.5 support in Splunk software, see Overview of the jQuery 3.5 upgrade.

For more information about how to act on the jQuery scan results in your weekly emails, see Act on jQuery scan results with the Upgrade Readiness App.

Update apps as a Splunk app developer

As an app developer, you are responsible for updating the apps that you own, and for releasing new versions that meet the upgrade readiness requirements of the Splunk platform releases that require Python 3 or jQuery 3.5.

For more information about how to update your Splunk apps to be compatible with Python 3, see Python 3 migration with the Splunk platform in the Python 3 migration manual.

For more information about how to update your Splunk apps to use jQuery 3.5 or higher only, see Update your Splunk apps to use jQuery 3.5 or higher in Splunk Cloud Platform or Splunk Enterprise.

Modify or disable weekly emails

The Upgrade Readiness App sends an email notification to all admin or sc_admin users, which summarizes the count of failed apps during the latest scheduled scan. If you dismiss a failed app, it is marked as an exception and is not included in future weekly emails. The app sends this notification at 6 AM every Monday based on the Splunk system time zone. Complete the following steps to modify the default email notification settings:

  1. Navigate to the tab for the scan type you want to modify in the Upgrade Readiness App. Email notifications for each scan type are controlled separately on their respective tabs.
  2. Select Modify Weekly Email Notification and edit your settings for each scan.
