Add, edit, or delete a data collection node

The Distributed Collection Scheduler manages data collection nodes. Add, edit, or delete a data collection node through the Collection Configuration dashboard.

Add a data collection node

Add data collection nodes to the Distributed Collection Scheduler, and configure worker processes on each node. Each time you access a node, the credentials for Splunk Enterprise and the add-ons on that node are validated. Do this for each data collection node on an individual basis.

1. In Splunk Web, select App > VMware.

2. Select Settings > Collection Configuration.

3. In the Data collection node panel, click +.

4. Configure the following settings for the node.

  • The management URI of the Splunk forwarder on the data collection node. Specify the full management URI of the Splunk installation. The management URI must include https protocol, the address, and the port number for the management URI. For example, https://testnode1:8089 is a valid management URI. Port 8089 is the default management port for a Splunk forwarder.
  • Splunk forwarder user name. The default user name is admin.
  • Splunk forwarder password. The default password is changeme.
  • Worker processes. A number from one to thirty that reflects the number of processes to run on the data collection node.

5. Click Save.

6. Verify that the node is configured correctly.

Correctly configured nodes have a green check mark, a green check box that indicates credential validation, and a green check box that indicates add-on validation.

Edit a data collection node

1. On the Collection Configuration dashboard, select the data collection node.

2. Click the pencil icon.

3. Edit the properties for the node.

4. Click Save.

Delete a data collection node

Deleting a data collection node removes it from your Distributed Collection Scheduler. A deleted data collection node does not process data or forward data to your Splunk indexer.

1. On the Collection Configuration dashboard, select the data collection node.

2. Click the trash can icon.

3. Confirm that you want to delete the node.
