Release Notes

On August 31, 2022, the Splunk App for VMware will reach its end of life. After this date, Splunk will no longer maintain or develop this product. The functionality in this app is migrating to a content pack in Data Integrations. Learn about the Content Pack for VMware Dashboards and Reports.
This documentation does not apply to the most recent version of Splunk® App for VMware (Legacy). For documentation on the most recent version, go to the latest release.

Download Splunk App for VMware


  1. Download the Splunk App for VMware, from Splunkbase to a location in your environment.
  2. See the Splunk App for VMware "Installation Guide" for instructions on how to install the app.

Splunk App for VMWare components

Component Description
splunk_app_vmware--<version>-<build_number>.zip This file contains the supporting add-ons, technology add-ons, and the apps that form the Splunk App for VMWare.
splunk_data_collection_node_for_vmware_<version>-<build_number>.ova This is the Splunk pre-configured virtual machine distributed as an OVA (Open Virtual Appliance) file.
splunk_TA_vcenter-<version>-<build_number>.zip This is the Add-On Splunk Enterprise uses to collect vCenter log data and forward it to the indexer.
splunk_forwarder_for_vmware-<version>-<build_number>.zip This is the component you use to build your own data collection node(s). It contains the data collection components SA-Utils, SA-Hydra, Splunk_TA_vmware, and Splunk_TA_esxilogs.
