System Requirements for Splunk App for Infrastructure

Review the following requirements before you deploy Splunk App for Infrastructure.

Splunk Enterprise version requirement

The Splunk App for Infrastructure version 1.3.0 supports Splunk Enterprise 7.1.x-7.2.x on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X platforms, in single-instance and distributed environments. This version also supports also supports Splunk Cloud 7.1.x-7.2.x.

Splunk Add-on requirements

Splunk App for Infrastructure requires the following Splunk Add-ons:

  • Splunk Add-on for Infrastructure 1.2.0 is required to be installed with the Splunk App for Infrastructure on a Splunk Enterprise single-instance or distributed deployment installation.
  • (Optional) Splunk Add-on for AWS is only required if collecting data from AWS CloudWatch. The Splunk Add-on for AWS 4.5 is supported. The Splunk Add-on for AWS 4.6 is not supported.

The Splunk App for Infrastructure supports data collection from the following operating systems.

Linux Agent installation script requirements

When installing the Linux Agent Installation Script, requirements needed from the system for installation, and what the collector installs on the server, are defined below.

Linux Agent installation script requirements

Agent installation script requirements include:

  • A supported operating system for data collection, as defined in Operating system support for data collection.
  • The operating system should have:
    • wget
    • apt-get (Debian and Ubuntu)
    • yum (Redhat, CentOS, and Fedora)
    • zypper (SUSE and openSUSE))
    • Internet access (easy install script)
  • Agent based data collection is not yet available for AWS Linux AMIs. For AWS monitoring, see Configure AWS Data Collection in the Administer Splunk App for Infrastructure.

Linux Agent installation script package

The Agent Installation Script installs the following on the server, dependent on the operating system used.

  • collectd package, which includes:
    • RHEL 6/Centos 6: The script installs collectd-5.7 rpm packages from https://pkg.ci.collectd.org/rpm/collectd-5.7/epel-6-x86_64/
    • RHEL 7/Centos7: The script installs collectd-5.8 from epel repository
    • Ubuntu/Debian: The script installs collectd-5.7 from the apt source "deb http://pkg.ci.collectd.org/deb trusty collectd-5.7"
    • Splunk's collectd plugin
    • libcurl package (required by Splunk's collectd package)
    • Splunk Universal Forwarder 7.1.0 for sending log data (if log collection is configured)

Splunk Enterprise requirements

Except as modified by statements on this page, all Splunk Enterprise system requirements apply to Splunk App for Infrastructure deployments. See System requirements for use of Splunk Enterprise on-premises.
