Splunk® App for Edge Hub and Augmented Reality

Splunk AR: Install and Use Splunk App for Edge Hub and Splunk AR

The Splunk App for AR is a required companion app for the Splunk AR mobile app. To learn more, see About the Splunk App for AR.

Add media to workspaces

To add an audio, video, or PDF to an AR workspace, You must use the FileLink app or provide a publicly hosted URL to the file. You can use either method to add an audio, video, or PDF to a workspace.

FileLink app version

This documentation applies to the latest FileLink app version. The current FileLink app version is 1.0.2.

Prerequisites

Use the FileLink app

Install the FileLink app from Splunkbase and use Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to connect your Google Drive account to Splunk AR. When performing steps in GCP see the documentation at https://developers.google.com/identity/protocols/oauth2/service-account.

  1. Install the FileLink app from Splunkbase.
  2. If your organization does not already have a corporate Google Cloud Platform (GCP) license, get started by using a free trial.
  3. Log into GCP and perform the following steps:
    1. Enable the Google Drive API to allow FileLink to access resources from Google Drive.
    2. Create a service account.
    3. Create and download a service account key file.
  4. In FileLink, upload the account key file in FileLink.
  5. Name the GCP account.
  6. Click Done.
  7. Create the folder you want to use to store files for Splunk AR in Google My Drive.
  8. Share the Google Drive folder that contains the files you want to use with FileLink with the service account you created.

You can browse, delete, and add more GCP accounts in the FileLink app.

Remove a service account from FileLink

Here's how to remove a service account from FileLink:

  1. In FileLink, select the ellipses icon next to the account you want to remove.
  2. Select Remove.

When you remove a service account from FileLink, FileLink removes any stored credential details and any access to files associated with the service account.

Manage file access and permissions

You can manage access to specific files in Google Drive. See the Google Drive documentation to learn how: https://support.google.com/drive/answer/2494893?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop

Manage file access and permissions by Splunk role

By default, all files are accessible to all Splunk roles assigned to a service account. To make different files accessible to different roles, make a service account for each group of roles you want to provide access to.

  1. To manage file access by Splunk roles, select the ellipses icon next to the account you want to manage permissions for.
  2. Select Permissions.
  3. Set read or write permissions for each role.

Use a publicly hosted URL

The URL must point directly to a .mp3, .mp4, or .pdf respectively. To add an image note, the URL can point to any kind of image file.

To get a media URL to add to your workspace, follow these steps:

  1. Obtain a compatible file of the what you would like to add to an AR workspace.
  2. Upload the file to a public data cloud platform, such as AWS.
The URL must be publicly hosted.
  3. Copy the URL.
  4. Paste the link into an email or messaging app to send the link to the mobile device using Splunk AR.

The user copies and pastes the link into Splunk AR when adding a note to a workspace.
