Upgrade from Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics version 4.2.0 to version 4.2.1
Perform the following steps to upgrade from version 4.2.0 of the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics to version 4.2.1.
Upgrade your DCS
- Stop the scheduler from the Collection Configuration page of Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics.
- Stop your Splunk instance.
- Get the package Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics.
- Extract the contents of the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.
Upgrade your DCN
- Stop your Splunk instance.
- Get the packages listed below:
- Extract the contents of the above to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.
Upgrade your indexer
Steps for on-prem deployment
From the backend
- Stop the Splunk on the indexer.
- Get the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes package.
- Extract the contents of the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.
From the Splunk UI
- Open Splunk on the Indexer.
- Navigate to Find more apps.
- Search for the below require package and install it:

- Open Splunk on the Search Head.
- Navigate to Find more apps.
- Search for the below required package and install it:
Upgrade your search head
Steps for on-prem deployment
From the backend
- Stop the Splunk on the indexer.
- Get the following packages:
- Extract the contents of the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.
From the Splunk UI
- Open Splunk on the search head.
- Navigate to Find more apps.
- Search for the below required package and install them:

- Open Splunk on the Search Head.
- Navigate to Find more apps.
- Search for the below required package and install them:
Upgrade dedicated ESXi log forwarder
- Stop Splunk on the search head.
- Get the Splunk Add-on for VMware ESXi logs packages.
- Extract the contents of the packages to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.
Upgrade dedicated vCenter log forwarder
- Stop Splunk on the search head.
- Get the Splunk Add-on for vCenter logs packages per the requirement.
- Extract the contents of the packages to $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.
Start Splunk
- Start Splunk on the DCN, scheduler, and indexer instances after upgrading them.
- Start the scheduler from the Collection Configuration page of Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics on the scheduler machine.
