Content Pack for VMware Dashboards and Reports

Use the Content Pack for VMware Dashboards and Reports

Once you install the Content Pack for VMware Dashboards and Reports in your environment. and configure the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics to collect performance data from your vCenter servers, you can use the content pack to proactively monitor and troubleshoot your environment.

Prerequisites

Available dashboards and reports

Access the content pack dashboards

To access the content pack dashboards, perform the following steps:

  1. In Splunk Web, open ITSI or IT Essentials Work.
  2. From the navigation bar, choose Dashboards > Dashboards.
  3. Scroll through the Dashboards by name, sort by any column header, or use the filter field to narrow the list. The App name for the dashboards in this content pack is DA-ITSI-CP-vmware-dashboard.

Access the content pack reports

To access the content pack reports, perform the following steps:

  1. In Splunk Web, open ITSI or IT Essentials Work.
  2. From the navigation bar, choose Dashboards > Reports.
  3. Scroll through the Reports by name, sort by any column header, or use the filter field to narrow the list. The App name for the reports in this content pack is DA-ITSI-CP-vmware-dashboard.

Customize the report search

Reports in the content pack are created from saved searches. You can use the default reports or you can customize the reports to suit your needs. To customize the report follow these steps:

  1. Open the report you want to customize.
  2. Select Edit > Open in Search.
  3. Edit the search.
  4. Select Save or Save As > Report if you want to save as a new report.

Clone a report

To customize a clone of a report follow these steps:

  1. Open the report you want to customize.
  2. Select Edit > Clone to make customizations to a new report.
  3. Enter a report name and description in the New Title and New Description fields.
  4. For Permissions you can select Private or Clone to clone the existing report's permissions.
  5. Select Clone Report.

Edit the report description and the permissions

To edit the report description, select Edit > Edit Description.

To edit the report permissions, select Edit > Edit Permissions.

Schedule a report

To schedule a report, select Edit> Edit Schedule.
