How to add data to Splunk App for Infrastructure
Admin privileges are required to configure data collection.
For a single instance installation of Splunk App for Infrastructure, configure data collection as described in this topic to add data and start monitoring your metrics and logs. You can collect data from Linux servers, AWS instances, Windows servers, or Mac OS X servers.
If you have a distributed environment installation of Splunk App for Infrastructure, see Set up the Splunk App for Infrastructure in a distributed deployment before configuring data collection.
Collect data from Linux Servers
The Linux Configure Integrations view allows you to set up data collection for the critical server metrics, as well as valuable logs for understanding your servers and their performance signatures. This view allows you to select custom dimensions, including metadata used to discover and analyze your infrastructure. Once you have completed your settings, you are given a single command line script for deploying all data collection tools, such as collectd and the Splunk Universal Forwarder. No need to manually install and configure each component, as the script does this for you. See Configure Linux Data Collection for Splunk App for Infrastructure.
Collect data from AWS instances
The AWS Configure Integrations view takes you through the process of setting up access to the AWS CloudWatch API for polling performance metrics for your EC2, EBS and ELB entities. CloudWatch log collection configuration can also be set up in this view, and you can add custom dimensions using the tagging tools available in AWS. See Configure AWS Data Collection for Splunk App for Infrastructure.
Collect data from Windows Servers
The Windows Configure Integrations view allows you to set up data collection for the critical server metrics, as well as valuable logs for understanding your servers and their performance signatures. This view allows you to select custom dimensions, including metadata used to discover and analyze your infrastructure. Once you have completed your settings, you are given a single command line script for deploying all data collection tools, such as the Splunk Universal Forwarder. No need to manually install and configure each component, as the script does this for you. Configure Windows Data Collection for Splunk App for Infrastructure
Collect data from Mac OS X Servers
The Mac OS X Configure Integrations view allows you to set up data collection for the critical server metrics, as well as valuable logs for understanding your servers and their performance signatures. This view allows you to select custom dimensions, including metadata used to discover and analyze your infrastructure. Once you have completed your settings, you are given a single command line script for deploying all data collection tools, such as such as collectd and the Splunk Universal Forwarder. No need to manually install and configure each component, as the script does this for you. See Configure Mac OS X Data Collection for Splunk App for Infrastructure.
