What's new in Splunk App for Infrastructure

These release notes apply to the Splunk App for Infrastructure (SAI) version 1.4.0.

New features

New feature or enhancement	Description
Splunk Add-on for Microsoft Windows compatibility	SAI and the Splunk Add-on for Microsoft Windows are compatible. Collect Windows metrics using Perfmon inputs with the Splunk Add-on for Infrastructure while you collect Windows data with the Splunk Add-on for Microsoft Windows. Modify or create new Perfmon inputs in inputs.conf to use the app with the Splunk Add-on for Microsoft Windows. For information about how the easy install script configures Perfmon inputs, see Windows metrics collection. If you're upgrading from an earlier version and are already collecting Windows perfmon inputs, you need to make configuration changes to your existing deployment. Collect data from Kubernetes clusters	Run the easy install script in Kubernetes clusters to monitor Kubernetes objects in SAI. View logs, metrics, and object metadata from your Kubernetes clusters. Use the Entity Overview workspace to view metrics for pods and nodes. Create events and metrics alerts in the Metrics Analysis workspace. Collect data from OpenShift clusters	Run the easy install script in OpenShift clusters to monitor Kubernetes objects in SAI. View logs, metrics, and object metadata from your OpenShift clusters. Use the Entity Overview workspace to view metrics for pods and nodes. Create events and metrics alerts in the Metrics Analysis workspace. Collect data from Docker containers	Specify to collect data from Docker containers that you deployed without an orchestration tool like Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, or OpenShift when you run the easy install script on Linux or Mac OS X systems. For more information, see the data collection instructions for one of these operating systems: Collect Linux/Unix metrics and logs with Splunk App for Infrastructure Collect Mac OS X metrics and logs with Splunk App for Infrastructure To manually update systems you are already monitoring to start sending data from Docker containers, add the Docker plug-in to each system's collectd.conf file. To do this, see Manually configure metrics collection on a *nix host for Splunk App for Infrastructure.
Filter entities by status	From the Investigate tab, you can filter entities by their Status. Filter entities you monitor by status to manage inactive entities. For more information, see Delete inactive entities.
View uptime metrics for *nix systems	View the uptime for Linux, Unix, and Mac OS X systems you monitor in SAI. For systems you are already monitoring in SAI, you must add LoadPlugin uptime to each system's collectd.conf file. To add the plug-in to a system's collectd.conf file, see Manually configure metrics collection on a *nix host for Splunk App for Infrastructure. To see the uptime of an entity, go to the Metrics Analysis workspace for the entity. For more information, see Using the Analysis Workspace in Splunk App for Infrastructure.
