Migrate from Splunk Cloud Gateway to Splunk Secure Gateway

Splunk Secure Gateway is included in Splunk Cloud version 8.1.2103 and Splunk Enterprise version 8.1.0 and higher.

Splunk Secure Gateway offers the same registration and configuration functionalities as Splunk Cloud Gateway. Splunk AR and Splunk TV product-specific functionalities are now in their own Splunkbase apps. Use Splunk Secure Gateway to register mobile devices and configure your Connected Experiences apps. Your Splunk Cloud Gateway app will continue to remain as is.

Continue using Splunk Connected Experiences Mobile apps

The following is important information for transitioning from Splunk Cloud Gateway to Splunk Secure Gateway.

Registration

To register a device for any Connected Experiences app, use Splunk Secure Gateway.

If you've been using Splunk Cloud Gateway, you don't have to register your devices again. Complete the migration steps to copy your data from Splunk Cloud Gateway to Splunk Secure Gateway.

Splunk Mobile

If you have alerts set up for your Splunk Mobile users, you need to create triggers for those alerts again. Splunk Mobile alert triggers do not transfer from Splunk Cloud Gateway to Splunk Secure Gateway.

Splunk AR

Use Splunk AR version 3.0.0 and higher with Splunk Secure Gateway and the Splunk App for AR. See Install the Splunk App for AR.

After you install the Splunk App for AR, your Splunk AR data from Splunk Cloud Gateway migrates to the Splunk App for AR.

If you're migrating from Splunk Cloud Gateway to Splunk Secure Gateway, you must have Splunk Cloud Gateway installed when switching to Splunk Secure Gateway. If you don't have Splunk Cloud Gateway installed when upgrading, you'll lose all assets, asset groups, workspaces, geofences, beacons, and permission settings.

Use Splunk AR version 2.5.0 and lower with Splunk Cloud Gateway.

Splunk TV

Splunk TV requires the Splunk App for TV and Splunk Secure Gateway. See Get Splunk Secure Gateway and Install the Splunk App for TV.

Copy data from Splunk Cloud Gateway to Splunk Secure Gateway

The Data Migration feature is for users who are already using Splunk Cloud Gateway. Use the Data Migration feature to copy your Splunk Cloud Gateway data over to Splunk Secure Gateway. Splunk Cloud Gateway data at the time of migration remains the same after using the data migration feature. After your data is copied, changes made in Splunk Secure Gateway don't affect your Splunk Cloud Gateway data, and vice versa.

You must restart your Splunk platform after copying your data from Splunk Cloud Gateway to Splunk Secure Gateway.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the Configure tab of Splunk Secure Gateway.
  2. Click Copy. You data from Splunk Cloud Gateway migrates to Splunk Secure Gateway.
