I am not sure if this is still an issue, but I experienced the same issue you described. I was able to change the admin password on my Splunk instance using the following:
splunk edit user admin -password <password> -role admin -auth admin:<admin_password>

Hi Rajasekhar14,
I'd be curious to know if you are able to change the password in Splunk Web. If not, it could be a permissions issue.

Hi Rajasekhar14,

Did you include two dashes before the "newpassword" argument? One dash does not work. Thanks.
