Associate an object with a dashboard in Splunk AR with asset tags

Register an asset and associate it with a Splunk dashboard or AR workspace using Splunk AR. Users can scan an asset tag with their mobile device and view the associated data. You can register assets with barcodes in the Splunk AR mobile app. In the Splunk App for AR, you can register groups of assets and existing barcodes, or get Splunk-generated QR codes or NFC tags.

Prerequisites

Make sure the following requirements are complete before registering assets in the Splunk AR mobile app:

You can register and unregister assets in the Splunk AR mobile app.

Register an asset

Here's how to register an asset in the Splunk AR mobile app:

  1. Scan an asset tag with the Splunk AR camera.
  2. Tap Register New Asset.
  3. Enter an asset name.
  4. Select an asset display.
    Choose AR workspace to associate augmented reality data with the asset, or Splunk Dashboard to associate a non-AR dashboard with the asset.
  5. Tap the arrow.
  6. Configure the asset display. Refer to the following table to configure an AR workspace or Splunk dashboard:

    1. Select a dashboard.
      The list shows dashboards that are compatible with AR workspaces. AR workspaces support up to nine numeric single value or gauge visualizations.
    2. Tap the arrow.
    3. Select a workspace template.
      Select New to adjust the AR visualizations from a standard default position. Select Existing to start with the position of an existing workspace.
    4. If you create a new workspace, enter a workspace name. If you choose an existing workspace, select from a list of workspaces with the same number of panels as the selected dashboard. The data from the dashboard panels will populate the AR visualizations.
    5. Tap the checkmark to save.

    1. Select a dashboard.
      The list shows dashboards that are compatible with the Connected Experiences apps. See Visualization support for Connected Experiences apps
    2. Tap the checkmark to save.
  7. Scan the asset tag to view the AR workspace or Splunk dashboard.
  8. If the asset contains an AR workspace, adjust the workspace.

  9. Tap save.

New AR workspaces will not show as an existing workspace template unless you reposition and save the workspace after creating it.

Unregister an asset

You can remove a Splunk dashboard or AR tag from an asset. You'll have to register the asset again to use it. The Splunk dashboard or AR workspace will remain, so you can use it with other assets.

  1. Scan an asset tag.
    If you're unregistering an AR workspace asset, make sure the AR workspace or a visualization is selected.
  2. Tap the trash icon.
  3. Tap Unregister.
