Splunk® Edge Hub OS

Setup and Configuration Guide

For documentation on other necessary components for Splunk Edge Hub, see the Splunk App for Edge Hub and AR documentation, Splunk Edge Hub mobile app documentation, and Splunk Edge Hub hardware documentation.
This documentation does not apply to the most recent version of Splunk® Edge Hub OS. For documentation on the most recent version, go to the latest release.

Splunk Edge overview

Get environmental sensor data into your Splunk platform without any complex configuration using Splunk Edge. The Splunk Edge Hub is a Splunk-configured hardware with built-in sensors. It collects sensor data and streams it into a Splunk-hosted Splunk Cloud platform instance using a Splunk-hosted HTTP Event Collector (HEC) tenant. To learn more about HEC, see Set up and use HTTP Event Collector in Splunk Web in the Splunk Enterprise Getting Data In manual

The Splunk Edge Hub product is in a preview state. Email edgesupport@splunk.com to gain access to the Splunk Edge Hub Private Preview program and get started with the onboarding process.

Join the Splunk Cloud tenant

You'll receive an invitation to join the Splunk-hosted tenant. Log into the tenant with the same Splunk Cloud Platform credentials that you used to sign up for the program.

Download the mobile app

You'll download the Splunk Edge mobile app using Testflight. Use the mobile app to register your Splunk Edge Hub device.

Set up your Splunk Edge

Secure your Splunk Edge Hub to where you want to collect sensor data and connect it to Wifi or an Ethernet cable. The Splunk Edge Hub collects sensor data and sends it to the Splunk Cloud Platform tenant over Wifi or Ethernet connection.

Start streaming data

After set up and registration, the Splunk Edge Hub collects sensor data and streams it to the Splunk-hosted tenant. Use the Splunk Edge mobile app to configure and manage your Splunk Edge. The tenant sends Splunk Edge data to a Splunk-hosted Splunk Cloud instance.

View Splunk Edge data

Log into the Splunk Cloud instance using the credentials you received during onboarding. View your Splunk Edge Hub dashboards in the Laserbeak app.

You can view Splunk Edge Hub data on your mobile device with the Splunk Mobile or Splunk AR app. After downloading one of the mobile apps, register your mobile device to the Splunk Cloud instance using Splunk Secure Gateway. Splunk Secure Gateway uses Spacebridge, a backend infrastructure that securely communicates data from a Splunk platform instance to registered mobile devices.

See Download Splunk Mobile for iOS or Download Splunk AR to download the Splunk Mobile or Splunk AR app.

See Register a device to a Splunk platform instance to learn how to register your mobile device to the Splunk Cloud instance.

See About the Splunk Secure Gateway security process to learn more about how Spacebridge works.
