Upgrade from Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics version 4.2.1 to version 4.2.4

Perform the following steps to upgrade from version 4.2.1 of the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics to version 4.2.4.

Upgrade your DCS

  1. Stop the scheduler from the Collection Configuration page of Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics.
  2. Stop your Splunk instance.
  3. Install the package Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics.
  4. Add the contents of the Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.

Upgrade your DCN

  1. Stop your Splunk instance.
  2. Get the package(s) listed based on your requirements:
  3. Add the contents of the packages to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.

Upgrade your Indexer

Steps for on-premise deployment

From backend:

  1. Stop your Splunk instance on the indexer.
  2. Get the "Splunk Supporting Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes" package.
  3. Add the contents of the "Splunk Supporting Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes" to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.

From Splunk UI:

  1. Open your Splunk instance of the Indexer.
  2. Navigate to Find more apps.
  3. Search for the Splunk Supporting Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes package and install it.

Steps for a Cloud Deployment

  1. Open your Splunk instance on the search head.
  2. Navigate to Find more apps.
  3. Search for the Splunk Supporting Add-on for VMware Metrics Indexes package and install it.

Upgrade your Search Head

Steps for on-premise deployment

From backend:

  1. Stop the Splunk instance on the search head.
  2. Get the Splunk Add-on for VMware ESXi logs and the Splunk Add-on for vCenter logs packages.
  3. Add the contents of the packages to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.

From Splunk UI:

  1. Open the Splunk instance on the Search Head.
  2. Navigate to Find more apps.
  3. Search for the Splunk Add-on for VMware ESXi logs and the Splunk Add-on for vCenter logs and install them.

Steps for cloud deployment

  1. Open the Splunk instance on the Search Head.
  2. Navigate to Find more apps.
  3. Search for the Splunk Add-on for VMware ESXi logs and Splunk Add-on for vCenter logs packages and install them.

Upgrade dedicated ESXi log forwarder

  1. Stop the Splunk instance on the search head.
  2. Install the Splunk Add-on for VMware ESXi logs package.
  3. Extract the contents of the packages to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.

Upgrade dedicated vCenter log forwarder

  1. Stop the Splunk instance on the search head.
  2. Install the "Splunk Add-on for vCenter logs" package.
  3. Extract the contents of the packages to the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps directory.

Start Splunk

  1. Start Splunk instance on the DCN, scheduler, and indexer instances after upgrading them.
  2. On the Collection Configuration page of Splunk Add-on for VMware Metrics, start the scheduler on the scheduler machine.
