Install the Splunk Add-on for AppDynamics

Note: Version 3.0.0 contains a breaking change. Upgrading a lower version of the add-on to version 3.0.0 will remove existing configurations.

  1. Determine where and how to install this add-on in your deployment using the table in the following section.
  2. Determine if any prerequisite steps are required before installing the add-on by using the table in the following section. Perform the required prerequisite steps.
  3. Install the Splunk Add-on for AppDynamics by downloading it from Splunkbase or browsing to it using the app browser in Splunk Web.

Distributed deployments

Unless otherwise noted, you can safely install all supported add-ons to all tiers of a distributed Splunk Enterprise or Splunk Cloud deployment. See Where to install Splunk add-ons in Splunk Add-ons for more information.

This table provides a reference for installing this specific add-on to a distributed on-premises deployment of Splunk Enterprise or Splunk Cloud:

Splunk component Required Comments
Search heads Yes Required to use the search time extractions provided by the add-on.
Indexers Yes This add-on creates an index called appdynamics, so it must be installed on indexers. The index counts towards your Splunk license charges.
Forwarders No Only required if you want to run modular inputs on heavy forwarders instead of the search head.
