Configure inputs in the Splunk Add-on for AppDynamics

The Splunk Add-on for AppDynamics contains input types that represent types of data from Splunk AppDynamics. You can create inputs to collect data from Splunk AppDynamics.

Create an input

To create an input:

  1. In the Splunk Enterprise main menu, select Apps, then Splunk Add-on for AppDynamics.
  2. On the Inputs page, select Create New Input. Select the input you want to create.
  3. Enter the required fields.
  4. Select Add.

Supported input types

The following table describes the supported input types and their configuration requirements.

Input type Description Configuration requirement
High-level status This input type collects high-level status and roll-up metrics for applications, business transactions, databases, servers, tiers, application security, web user experience, and mobile user experience. The specific metrics collected depend on the API permissions of the controller configuration. A controller connection is required to collect this input type.
Database metrics This input type collects database metrics for hardware, KPI, performance, server statistics, and custom metrics. The specific metrics collected depend on the database type and configuration. A controller connection is required to collect this input type.
Hardware metrics This input type collects hardware metrics. Data can be collected at the tier level, node level, or both. A controller connection is required to collect this input type.
Analytics search The Splunk AppDynamics Query Language (ADQL) is a query language for searching available data in Analytics. This input type collects the Analytics data retrieved from an ADQL query. When the add-on collects Analytics data from Splunk AppDynamics, it converts the format to be compatible with the Splunk data model. For more information on ADQL query syntax, see ADQL Queries. A analytics connection is required to collect this input type.
Secure Application data This input type collects data from Secure Application, such as security data, attacks, vulnerabilities, and reports. A controller connection is required to collect this input type.
Events data This input type collects application events raised by Splunk AppDynamics. A controller connection is required to collect this input type.
Custom metrics This input type can collect any custom metric that can be found using the Metric Browser in Splunk AppDynamics. A controller connection is required to collect this input type.
Application snapshots This input type collects snapshots for selected applications, or all applications and all business transactions. You can configure the level of detail that is collected. A controller connection is required to collect this input type.
Controller audit logs This input type collects controller audit records. A controller connection is required to collect this input type.
Controller license usage This input type collects controller IBL or ABL license usage, enabling you to monitor license allocations and usage on your controller. A controller connection is required to collect this input type.

Next step

After you configure inputs in the add-on, you can create searches for Splunk AppDynamics data. See Create searches for Splunk AppDynamics data.
