Get Started with Splunk Business Flow Tutorial

Splunk Business Flow is no longer available for purchase as of June 20, 2020. Customers who have already purchased Business Flow will continue to have support and maintenance per standard support terms for the remainder of contractual commitments.

Monitor and edit your Flow

Monitor Flow metrics and distributions in the Overview page. Next, edit your Flow to hide steps in the Flowchart, create new Lanes, customize colors, and add custom numeric attributes

Monitor your Flow in the Overview page

Apply Filter Sets to panels and customize names to your auto refreshed Overview page.

Select a frequency for the Overview page to auto refresh

Follow these steps to select an auto refresh frequency:

  1. From the Flow home page, click Overview on the Flow you want to monitor.
  2. Click the Auto refresh delay button.
  3. Select the frequency of your choice.

Customize the name of an Overview panel

Follow these steps to customize the name of a panel in the Overview page:

  1. From the Flow home page, click Overview on the Flow you want to monitor.
  2. Click the ellipsis dots on the panel you want to rename.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Type a name in the Title box.
  5. Click Save.

Apply a Filter Set to a panel

Follow these steps to apply a Filter Set to a panel in the Overview page:

  1. From the Flow home page, click Overview on the Flow you want to monitor.
  2. Click the ellipsis dots on the panel you want to modify.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Select the Filter Set you want to apply.
  5. Preview your changes.
  6. Click Save.

Edit your Flow

In the Flow Edit page you can use the Step Manger to remove steps, create new Lanes, and add custom numeric attributes.

Change the color of a step

Follow these steps to change the step color and and hide steps from view in the Flowchart.

  1. From the Explore page, click Edit.
  2. On a step, click the color square.
  3. Select a color of your choice.

Add a custom numeric attribute

You can add a custom numeric value to a Step as an Attribute. For example, suppose you want to track an estimated cost related to a Journey. Follow these steps to add a custom numeric attribute to a step:

  1. Click the pencil icon to access the Step Manager in the Flow editor page.
    • To rename the column Custom Numeric Attribute Value column, click the pencil icon. Type a name and click the checkmark to save your work.
    • To add a numeric value, type in the Custom Numeric Attribute Value column in the row of the associated Step.
    • To remove a numeric value, click the pencil icon in the row of the associated Step and remove the numeric value.
  2. To filter by a custom numeric value, select the value or range of values from the Custom Numeric Attribute in the filters panel.
