Associate objects with dashboards in Splunk Cloud Gateway with asset tags

Associate assets with Splunk data so Splunk AR users can consume, interact with, and take action with data where it physically exists. You can register individual assets in Splunk Cloud Gateway or in the Splunk AR mobile app. In Splunk Cloud Gateway, you can also register a group of assets and get QR codes or NFC URLs.

See the following topics to learn more about Splunk AR assets:

Prerequisites

Complete the following requirements before registering assets in Splunk AR:

Register an individual asset

Register an asset and associate it with data for Splunk AR users to view and interact with.

  1. Navigate to the Splunk > AR page in Splunk Cloud Gateway.
  2. Click Register New Asset.
  3. Select Single Asset.
  4. Enter an asset name.
  5. Enter an Asset ID, such as a barcode number. Leave the field blank to automatically generate an ID.
  6. Select an asset display.
Select AR workspace to associate augmented reality data with the asset or Splunk Dashboard to associate a non-AR dashboard with the asset.
  7. Select a compatible dashboard.
  8. Configure the asset display. Refer to the following table to configure an AR workspace or Splunk dashboard:
  9. Asset display How to

The list shows dashboards that are compatible with AR workspaces. AR workspaces support up to nine numeric single value or gauge visualizations.
    2. Select a workspace template.
Select New to adjust the AR visualizations from a default position. Select Existing to start with an existing workspace. The existing workspaces list displays workspaces that have the same number of visualizations as the number panels in the dashboard you selected.
    3. If you create a new workspace, enter a workspace name. If you choose an existing workspace, select from a list of workspaces with the same number of panels as the selected dashboard. The data from the dashboard panels will populate the AR visualizations.

    Splunk dashboard
    1. Select a compatible dashboard.
The list shows dashboards that are compatible with the Connected Experiences apps. See Visualization support for Connected Experiences apps.
    2. Click Confirm.

The asset appears in the Individual Assets tab of the Splunk > AR page. Select Get Tag > QR Code or Mobile URL to get a Splunk Cloud Gateway asset. For optimal QR code scanning, use a 4-by-4-centimeters QR code. See Troubleshoot Splunk AR for more information.

See Scan an asset tag in the Use Splunk AR manual to learn how to scan an asset.

If you want AR visualizations to update automatically, specify a refresh interval in the original dashboard before creating the AR workspace. You must recreate the AR workspace if changes are made after creating the AR workspace. See Simple XML Reference in the Splunk Enterprise Dashboards and Visualizations manual for more information on specifying a refresh interval.

Register a group of assets

If your organization has a large number of existing assets, you can bulk register these assets to Splunk AR.

When registering a group of assets, keep in mind that the AR workspace or Splunk dashboard you choose for the asset group applies to all assets.

  1. Navigate to the Splunk > AR page in Splunk Cloud Gateway.
  2. Click Register Assets.
  3. Select Asset Group.
  4. Click .csv file template to download the asset group template.
  5. In the .csv file template, fill out the asset names in one column and the corresponding asset IDs in the second column. You can leave the asset ID column blank to automatically generate asset IDs.
  6. Upload the completed template to Splunk Cloud Gateway.
  7. Select New or Existing.
  8. If you selected New, enter a group name. Or, if you selected Existing, select an existing group to add assets to.
  9. Select an asset display. The asset display you select applies to all assets in the group.
  10. Configure the asset display as you would configure an individual asset.
See Register an individual asset to learn how to configure the asset display.
  11. Click Confirm.

The asset group appears in the Asset Groups tab of the Splunk > AR page. Next to an individual grouped asset, select Get Tag > QR Code or Mobile URL to get a Splunk Cloud Gateway asset. For optimal QR code scanning, use a 4-by-4-centimeter QR code. See Troubleshoot Splunk AR for more information.

See View Splunk dashboards and AR workspaces using Splunk AR to learn how scan an asset to view AR workspaces or Splunk dashboards.

Manage group assets

Your asset groups are available in the Asset Groups tab of the Splunk > AR page. The Asset Groups tab contains a list of your asset groups and a list of individual assets that belong to the groups.

You can edit an entire group or individually edit assets that are part of a group. To edit an asset group, click Edit next to an Asset Group. To edit an individual asset that belongs to a group, click Edit next to a grouped asset.
