Splunk MINT Management Console User Guide

Splunk MINT is no longer available for purchase as of January 29, 2021. Customers who have already been paying to ingest and process MINT data in Splunk Enterprise will continue to receive support until December 31, 2021, which is End of Life for all MINT products: App, Web Service (Management Console), SDK and Add-On.

Integrate with developer tools

Splunk MINT Management Console integrates with third-party developer tools, then reports issues to these tools in real time, helping developers track improvements and fix bugs with less effort and more agility.

Splunk MINT Management Console supports integration with several third-party services. If you have an account with any of these services, you can integrate them with Splunk MINT Management Console:

  • HipChat: Send a notification message to a HipChat room with a link to the error.
  • GitHub: Send a GitHub issue with a message, error, and tag as “Splunk MINT".
  • JIRA: Open a JIRA ticket manually or automatically based on the threshold.
  • Pivotal Tracker: Open a Pivotal Tracker ticket manually or automatically based on the threshold.

HipChat

When you integrate with HipChat, MINT Management Console sends a notification message to HipChat with the error message and a link to the MINT Management Console error page. For each project, you select the HipChat room to send notifications to and set the threshold indicating the number of error occurrences before a notification is to be sent.

To integrate MINT Management Console with HipChat

  1. Log in to HipChat.
  2. Go to https://youraccount.hipchat.com/admin/api.
  3. Create a new admin token, then copy it.
  4. Go to the Splunk MINT Management Console dashboard and select Account > Account Info.
  5. Under My Integrations, click HipChat.
  6. Paste the token into the Auth Token field, then click Submit.


Once you've integrated HipChat into MINT Management Console, link each MINT Management Console project to HipChat.

To link a MINT Management Console project to HipChat

  1. On the Splunk MINT Management Console dashboard, open a project, then click Settings.
  2. Under Project Integrations, click HipChat.
  3. From the dropdown list, select the HipChat room to send notifications to.
  4. Optionally, enter a number for the error occurrences threshold. To send a notification each time an error occurs, set the threshold to 1. The default is 10.

You can also send HipChat notifications manually by going to an error's page in MINT Management Console, then under Integrations clicking Send to HipChat.

GitHub

When you integrate with GitHub, MINT Management Console sends an issue to GitHub with a message, error, and tag as “Splunk MINT". For each project, you select the GitHub project to send issues to and set the threshold indicating the number of error occurrences before an issue is to be sent.

To integrate MINT Management Console with GitHub

  1. On the Splunk MINT Management Console dashboard, select Account > Account Info.
  2. Under My Integrations, click GitHub.
  3. Click Connect with GetHub.
  4. When you are redirected to GitHub, click Authorize application to allow Splunk MINT to access your GitHub account and send issues to it.


Once you've integrated GitHub into MINT Management Console, link each MINT Management Console project to GitHub.

To link a MINT Management Console project to GitHub

  1. On the Splunk MINT Management Console dashboard, open a project, then click Settings.
  2. Under Project Integrations, click GitHub.
  3. From the dropdown list, select the GitHub repo to send issues to for this project.
  4. Optionally, enter a number for the error occurrences threshold. To send a GitHub issue each time an error occurs, set the threshold to 1. The default is 10.

You can also send GitHub issues manually by going to an error's page in MINT Management Console, then under Integrations clicking Send to GitHub.

JIRA

When you integrate with JIRA, MINT Management Console opens a JIRA ticket for an error after reaching the threshold of error occurrences. For each MINT Management Console project, you select the JIRA project to use for opening tickets, and the threshold indicating the number of error occurrences before a ticket is opened.

To integrate MINT Management Console with JIRA

1. In JIRA, make sure the following fields are enabled:

  • "Affects Versions"
  • "Project"
  • "Issue Type"
  • "Summary"
  • "Description"

2. On the Splunk MINT Management Console dashboard, select Account > Account Info.

3. Under My Integrations, click JIRA.

4. Log into JIRA by entering your username, password, and JIRA URL, then click Submit.

Note If your JIRA password contains special characters (such as '$' or '@'), the integration will fail.

Once you've integrated JIRA into MINT Management Console, link each MINT Management Console project to JIRA.

To link a MINT Management Console project to JIRA

  1. On the Splunk MINT Management Console dashboard, open a project, then click Settings.
  2. Under Project Integrations, click JIRA.
  3. From the dropdown list, select the JIRA project in which to open JIRA tickets for this project.
  4. Optionally, enter a number for the error occurrences threshold. To open a JIRA ticket each time an error occurs, set the threshold to 1. The default is 10.
  5. Optionally, enter a number for the error limit for increasing the error priority. The default is 1000.

You can also open JIRA tickets manually by going to an error's page in MINT Management Console, then under Integrations clicking Send to JIRA.

Pivotal Tracker

When you integrate with Pivotal Tracker, MINT Management Console opens a Pivotal Tracker ticket for an error after reaching the threshold of error occurrences. For each MINT Management Console project, you select the Pivotal Tracker project to use for opening tickets, and the threshold indicating the number of error occurrences before a ticket is opened.

To integrate MINT Management Console with Pivotal Tracker

  1. Log in to Pivotal Tracker.
  2. Go to https://www.pivotaltracker.com/profile.
  3. Create a new API token if you haven't already, then copy it.
  4. Go to the Splunk MINT Management Console dashboard and select Account > Account Info.
  5. Under My Integrations, click Pivotal Tracker.
  6. Paste the token into the Pivotal Token field, then click Submit.


Once you've integrated Pivotal Tracker into MINT Management Console, link each MINT Management Console project to Pivotal Tracker.

To link a MINT Management Console project to Pivotal Tracker

  1. On the Splunk MINT Management Console dashboard, open a project, then click Settings.
  2. Under Project Integrations, click Pivotal Tracker.
  3. From the dropdown list, select the Pivotal Tracker project in which to open Pivotal Tracker tickets for this project.
  4. Optionally, enter a number for the error occurrences threshold. To open a Pivotal Tracker ticket each time an error occurs, set the threshold to 1. The default is 10.

You can also send Pivotal Tracker issues manually by going to an error's page in MINT Management Console, then under Integrations clicking Send to Pivotal Tracker.
