SPL is the abbreviation for the Splunk Search Processing Language. The Search Processing Language is a set of commands that you use to search your data.

There are 2 versions of the Search Processing Language: SPL and SPL2.

SPL encompasses all the search commands and their functions, arguments, and clauses. The SPL syntax was originally based on the UNIX pipeline and SQL. The scope of SPL includes data searching, filtering, modification, manipulation, insertion, and deletion.
