deployment client

noun

A Splunk instance that is remotely configured by a deployment server. Deployment clients can be grouped together into one or more server classes. Each deployment client periodically polls its deployment server on a regular basis. If the deployment server determines that it has new content (such as apps, system configurations, and other related content, such as scripts, images, and supporting material) to deploy, it distributes that content to the polling deployment client. The deployment client then uses the content according to the instructions specified by the server class to which it belongs.
