Splunk Observability Cloud released the following new features and enhancements in November 2024. This is not an exhaustive list of changes in the observability ecosystem. For a detailed breakdown of changes in versioned components, see the list of changelogs.

Splunk Observability Cloud metrics in Splunk Cloud Platform

Administrators can now view Splunk Observability Cloud metrics in Splunk Cloud Platform. Create a Splunk Observability Cloud metrics-based chart in Splunk Dashboard Studio or import a chart from Splunk Observability Cloud into Splunk Dashboard Studio.

Metrics usage analytics

Metrics pipeline management now includes the usage analytics self-service reporting interface, allowing users to see the number of metric time series (MTS) generated, used, and stored across their system.

Getting data in onboarding improvements

The user interface now includes the following enhancements:

  • Tabbed layout for the Data Management page.

  • Guided onboarding banner that replaces the OTel Collector banner.

  • Updated integrations list.

  • Call to action added to the infrastructure inventory for the hosts and clusters that don’t have the OTel Collector installed.

Enhanced navigation with modern UI

The user interface is updated to bring together AppDynamics and Splunk Observability, with enhancements to the top navigation bar, a new user profile menu, and a more accessible left navigation panel.

Global search enhancements

The top navigation search now includes the following enhancements:

  • Improved search coverage for RUM, Synthetics, and Log Observer Connect.

  • Ability to search for applications, RUM session IDs, and synthetic tests.

  • More consistent, streamlined search results for enhanced usability.

Kubernetes proactive troubleshooting improvements

The Infrastructure Monitoring Kubernetes navigators now include the following enhancements:

Synthetic Monitoring performance KPI enhancements

Synthetic Monitoring now includes the following enhancements:

  • Dynamic dashboard resolution now automatically adjusts data views based on zoom levels and data density, providing granular detail when zoomed in and summarized data when zoomed out. To adjust the view, you don’t need to manually set frequencies based on the time period. See Test performance KPIs.

  • The run history page offers up to 90 days of historical data across all 3 test types, capturing artifacts such as waterfalls and API responses for comprehensive analysis.

  • Ability to pause run data at a specific time, allowing you to analyze and troubleshoot issues without the chart continuously updating.

  • Built-in dashboards. See Synthetics built-in dashboards.

  • Google Chrome flags for troubleshooting browser tests.

Tag Spotlight enhancements in APM

You can now rearrange the cards on the Tag Spotlight page by priority order to view your most important tags.

Centralized user and role management

Administrators can now centrally manage users and roles for both Splunk Cloud Platform and Splunk Observability Cloud in Splunk Cloud Platform.

Log Observer Connect teams

Administrators can now restrict access to Splunk Platform indexes by Splunk Observability Cloud user.

Archived metrics visibility in charts and detectors

Users can see if a metric used in charts and detectors is an archived metric and create rerouting or exception rules accordingly to avoid broken charts and detectors.
